The Advanced Search page includes Advanced Search and Government Code Career Index Search.

Advanced Search

Advanced Search allows you to use Boolean operators in your search and build out complex search terms with multiple keywords.

  1. To go to the Advanced Search page, click the "Advanced Search" link in the header.
  2. In the Advanced Search section of the page, enter a keyword or phrase in the search box. Capitalization does not matter.
  3. If you'd like to add another search term, enter that in the second search box. The default Boolean operator is "AND", but you can change this to "OR" or "NOT" using the drop-down.

  5. Click the Search button or press Enter on your keyboard to run the search.

Government Code Career Index Search

The career indexes included were created by the governments of the United States and Canada as job classification systems. The index structures represent different organizational philosophies, but you should be able to find the career you want through either index.

The indexes are the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Index and the Occupational Information Network (O*NET)-Standard Occupational Classification System (SOC) index. The NOC index is Canada's career classification system; the O*NET-SOC index was created by the U.S. government.

  1. To go to the Advanced Search page, click the "Advanced Search" link in the header.
  2. In the Government Code Career Index Search section of the page, type the NOC or O*NET-SOC code into the appropriate field.
  3. To browse available index codes:
    • Click "Browse NOC Index" to find NOC index codes.
    • Click "Browse O*NET-SOC Index" to find O*NET-SOC index codes.
  4. Click the Search button or press Enter on your keyboard to run the search.
  5. Any profession profiles in Ferguson's Career Center that are associated with the selected index code display in the results. Note: Not all index codes return results; results are returned if profession profiles in Ferguson's Career Guidance Center are associated with the code.
